According to the picture he posted, the option isn't there. I believe you needed to have a program that already gives you the license to use mpeg, before it becomes available. In other words, you have to pay for the right to use mpeg2. But if you were able to choose it from Vegas Movie Studio, the option should be available in Vegas pro trial, too..
I was also wondering if that picture is from Vegas or Movie Studio?
The picture is from Vegas Pro trial. I uininstalled Vegas Movie Studio before installing the Pro trial, though. I thought the two might interfere with each other. It seems that Vegas Pro should be all that's needed to "enable" MPEG...
Let's say you were a new Vegas Pro user (never installed Movie Studio). Would the MPEG options be there? By the chatter on this forum, it would be. People talk about rendering settings for DVD all over the place.
I'm going to try uninstalling the trial and removing all traces of registry stuff for Vegas, then reinstalling the trial. Hopefully it won't self-expire! My reasons for going to full Pro are to get velocity envelopes and the [Custom] button for MPEG DVD rendering, and the latter isn't even there! :-)))
Thanks for the help, though. At least I know there's something wrong with my installation and that the MPEG-DVD options aren't really missing from Pro!
It looks like "Main Concept" MPEG isn't enabled in the trial. No problem for now, I have DVD Architect Studio, so I can produce to AVI from Vegas and encode for DVD there. Slower, but at least I can trial Vegas Pro. Thanks for the help guys, and sorry for the dumb question here. I hope to be back after I plunk down the Studio->Pro upgrade fee! It's pretty steep but then Vegas Pro is a hell of a program!
Bob: I built a new system with Vista and when I loaded Vegas 8 Pro the mpg option was not there. The reason was exactly what someone else previously stated...I didn't have a license for mpg. Once my Nero 8 came in that was compatible with Vista, I then could make mpg through Vegas 8 Pro.
Well, it's a moot point now! I upgraded, and I am really happy. I just finished my first script (a simple thing that makes slideshows with crossfade and random pan/zoom) and am delighted at seeing the .NET API.
Like one of the other guys I just read, I am coming from UVS and what a difference, even with VMS. Rock solid, fast, intuitive and a lot more flexible/powerful. I'm a solid convert!!!!
