MPEG plug-in problems

Mossey wrote on 8/17/2007, 12:15 PM
I have upgraded to VMS 8.0, but when I try to import mpeg files from my hard drive into the Project Media Window a warning box flashes up saying that "the plug-in needed to read the file is not registered." It says I can click on the register button to register the plug-in, but when I do this I get another warning box which says:

"An error occurred while opening one or more files.

The registered plug-in does not have the necessary files unlocked."

If I click on details then it shows me the file that cannot be opened (i.e. the mpeg). If I click "ok" then I just go back to Vegas without my file imported.

does anybody know how I register the plug-in, or unlock the necessary features?

Sorry, above was meant to say:
"An error occurred while opening one or more files.

The registered plug-in does not have the necessary FEATURES unlocked."

doesn't this have to do with migration i.e. migration tools? it is supposed to happen automatically during an upgrade, but maybe something didn't. you may have to register that codec or "migrate it" I have been fortunate with upgrades and never had a problem

Hi all

Thanks for the help. Got this sorted now, with the help of a top bloke called Matt on the technical support helpline. I think it was something to do with not having installed DVD Architect, and still having VMS 6.0 installed.

Cheers, Mossey.

I have the exact same problem.

But I *did* install DVD Artichect 4.5.

However I still have VMS Platinum 6 and DVDA 3 installed.

Wating to hear back from an e-Mail query to tech support.

Well, I recommend you un-install everything, including VMS 6 and DVDA 3, and then re-install VMS 8 and DVDA 4.5. It worked for me. Sony said they have had a few people report this problem and they are working to fix it, and they wanted me to send them a lot of info about my machine settings etc.

Did you ever get an answer?
