Mpeg plugin registration

When I try to register the mpeg plugin I always get error messages about wrong product. I try to register online at the registration site and I get an error message about my serial number. This is very annoying

Um...yeah...I had the full version of 1.0 and I upgraded to 2.0 because I thought I would be able to register the plugin...???

Why do we have to register a plugin? On the box it says it supports the MPEG files that I am trying to use and it doesn't. The registration just shows me that I have the wrong product. What is wrong with this picture? It's enought that I drove to the store and bought the product, but now I can't use it.
