Mpeg question

BobMoyer wrote on 2/16/2002, 10:57 AM
I have rendered my file from the project line as a VCD using the MainConcept codec and the NTSC VCD template. However when I burn it to disc using CD Extreme, it will not play. The screen remains black with no sound but the counter on the DVD continues as if it is playing. The SAME .avi file rendered through TMPGEnc as an mpeg file will play but I was hoping for better resolutions via the VV3 process. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I cannot burn directly from VV3 as I use a firewire burner. Thanks for any help.

do u view the vcd mpeg clip on mediaplayer b4 u burn a vcd, is it playing fine?
i just did a vcd yesterday and burn it using nero and works fine.
check the video source first. the mainconcept mpeg plugin is really good, i like it.

Yes, it will play fine on the default media player on my system. I have converted this file to mpeg1, 3 different times and then burned it along with the file from TMPGEnc. Each time, the the VV3 files would not play but the test file played fine. I always include the TMPGEnc file as a test file to make sure the burn went ok.

As a followup to the previous question, the mpeg files (all of them) play fine in my default media player. However, when I 'explore' the new VCD, I cannot get any of the ".dat" files that were created with VV3's VCD process to play at all. They simply hang up my media player. The ".dat" file created with TMPGEnc plays fine. It appears that the problem may lie in VV3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

You might care to take a look at Ulead's DVD MovieFactory, which creates and burns DVDs, VCDs and SVCDs. It does it extremely well. You can either use MPEGs created in VV or it will do them itself (or you can use a third-party item like Tmpegenc)

There's a [large] trial download, good for 30 days, and if you buy, the cost is very reasonable.

Everything I've made with this product works like magic on my Pioneer 545. Do bear in mind, by the way, that not all DVD players are happy with video CDs
