mpeg to wmv and measurements

Hey there,
I have this problem and it is driving me crazy because I have been trying for days. I would apprectaie all the help I can get.
I am working with Vegas 6b trying to convert an mpeg into wmv. All seems to go well but the measurements.
The original videosize is set at 736 * 480. Okay I can keep the same ratio here but my width changes from 4:3 to 8:5
I would like to keep this the same as in the original. Is this possible without the video getting distorded?

It probably has to do with the pixel aspect ratio. 736x480 as 4:3 is a PAR of 0.8696 or so. (This is a very unusual size; where did it come from?) Your WMV file is probably going to have a PAR of 1.0. In order to keep it the same 4:3 shape you'll have to render to 640x480. You can set the PAR for WMV to 0.8696 if you wish, but many players will ignore this and show the video distorted. It's best to use 1.0 whenever possible.

Thank you for that very quick answer.
I do not know the exact origin of the video. It was sent to me to brush it up a little. I get the impression it is from some sort of camrecorder. There is a datestamp on the tape from 1994 so I can not change the source.
Where does one set the PAR? I am willing to give it a try. I have been trying for two days almost non-stop...:-)

In the render window click the Custom button, then the video tab. It's listed as pixel aspect ratio. It has a pulldown that lets you select 1.0 or 1.333, but you can type in any value.

Ah! I have seen that a lot! I just did not realise that you could pick any value. I will try that.
Thanks a million!
