This should not be happening (of course). What render settings were you using?
johnpete wrote on 1/2/2002, 4:56 PM
The standard defaults. Have tried VBR and CBR.

I have a Pinnacle DV500 installed on my machine.

I have been using Adobe P6, DVDit 2.5, Impression 2.1 and other programs which use different Mpeg codecs. Could this be the problem(s)?

There is a known crashing bug when rendering as progressive. The fix will be released with the Vegas 3.0a update, scheduled for late January.

You can also pick up the fix today by downloading the VideoFactory 2.0b demo- this will update the plug-ins, including the MPEG encoder.

Downloaded and install VideoFactory and still the same problem. Just crashes when rendering to Mpeg any setting under Win2k or XP.

1) Make sure you're selecting the MainConcept mpeg2 and not the "mpeg2" which is actually the Ligos encoder. Double check in the drop-down.

2) Are you selecting "mpeg2" in the Video Type drop down or "SVCD" or "DVD"? Try the latter options. There is a memory leak (at least in the original VV3 release) if you use "mpeg2" with any non-standard bitrate. I crashed several minutes into the rendering. Pull up the Task Manager with ctrl-alt-delete and watch the memory. If it climbs and climbs and the "available memory" gets lower and lower, this is your problem. Select the standard template from the top drop-down, don't change the bitrate, and make sure the Video type is not mpeg2. Report back :-/

Still no soap. Crashes in just a few seconds under both 2k and XP.

I even downloaded and installed Video Factory. Still no luck.

Can you please provide as many details about the crash as possible (preferably on Win2k)? (i.e. the exact steps to create the crash and all details from the crash dialog.)

I also have three or four software dvd players installed.

The problem could be caused by some of the other MPEG software. I have a hunch that on a different system your results would be much better.

Can you provide details on all the MPEG software you have installed?

Thanks,
