mpeg2 for mac applications

I am trying to create mpeg video files to add to a sound work. The sound is being composed on a Mac, and will be edited in DVD Studio Pro. (We really have to do it this way round, as the sound editing process is quite complex!) I'm rendering my project as an mpeg2, with standard PAL settings, but when I try to import it into DVD Studio Pro it is not recognised. The video will also not play in Quicktime.

So, how do I create an mpeg2 that will be recognised by a Mac application? I can't believe it's not possible, in this day and age! Any help much appreciated by this relatively technodunce beginner. :-)

It should not be a problem if you render the video as elementary streams.
This will produce 1 video file & 1 audio file with the same name but different extensions. The Mac application should be able to read the mpeg audio .mpa file but if I was doing this I would also additionally render an audio only file in simple wav (raw) format ( Stereo 16bit, 48khz).
