Hello, I just bought Video Factory 2.0 with the MPEG2 plugin. I have the serial number for the plugin and can't figure out how to get the thing activated. One thread here suggested use the popup "Purchase" button and enter it in the window that is supposed to open, but I get no window. I emailed customer service and have gotten no response. I need that plugin now! Help!!!!
Thanks.

Did you get the serial number through the phone by calling Customer Service?
I'm surprised they didn't help you enter the number then.

Anyway, just try to create an MPEG-2 file, the activation dialog should pop up then.

The pop up will appear when you try to do something that requires the mpeg2 such as render a file in mpeg2 or open an mpeg2 file.

I had a lot of hassle myself on activating the MPEG plugin. Go to the following web site for some further help -

The previously given web page will say to simply enter the serial number into the activation code field. Problem is - I had NO clue about this "activation code field!"

But upon reading further, it is said that if the first method fails, close & re-open VideoFactory. Then make like your going to place another order for the software by phone. What they mean is that when you go to try and produce an output file from VF that requires MPEG, you'll get the purchase prompt. Select "Order by phone" and the next screen to pop up will show your computer ID.

With your computer ID written down (I just highlighted it and pressed Ctrl-C to copy it), you then go to a second web site in order to register your plug-in. The second web site is like a master registration page for all Sonic Foundry products. After you complete that registration (by entering your computer ID) you will then be e-mailed an activation code. (The pluginactivation.asp web page then says something about copying that activation code into the "open field." I have no clue what they mean. Ignore that statement and READ the e-mail you get sent.)

The e-mail Sonic Foundry send will contain the Computer ID you used as well as your Activation Code. But there should also be an attachment. This attachment is a standard computer registry file. As stated in the e-mail, save the attachment somewhere. (I like to use Desktop, since it is then easy to reach without having to open Windows Explorer.) Then double-click on the saved registry file and, when prompted, answer "Yes" to add the file to the registry.

Adding the activation code via a registry file that gets e-mailed seems to be the simplest way of activating plug-ins and I think Soniic Foundry should eliminate other methods and instructions since they seem to get users nowhere! (At least, they got me nowhere!)
