MPEG2 renders are playing in fast motion?

I've been making MPEG2 renders from captures for awhile now in VV3.0c and all have worked fine. My end result is making DVD-R's.

Just recently, this single AVI file I have (captured myself) has been giving me problems. It plays back correctly in the timeline in VV3, and in sync, but after I render it...

Well, the file audio plays back in fast motion. Its horribly out of sync, and it sounds like the audio is in fast motion. The only thing different on my PC is I upgraded to Sound Forge 6.0 from 5.0

Any ideas?

Have you tried rendering to another format like MPEG1 or DV AVI to rule out the MPEG2 codec?

Good idea. I tried MPEG1 and it died part way through too. I'm re-rendering my whole edited mess to a single new AVI file right now to see if that will fix it.

Nope, it died making an AVI file too. The program just exits in the middle of rendering. Any ideas?

Let's go back to the original capture. What tool did you capture it with? Is it from a DV source or analog? Can you print it to tape successfully? Did you try capturing the footage again into a new project without any edits, A/V FX, or transistions?

There is a bug in the Main Concept MPEG encoder. It seems that whenever I drop the bitrate too low for its "liking", it gives me hassles, or just crashes altogether.

The default for CBR is around 4000-6000. That works fine. If you take it lower than 2900 or so, it gives me various issues. Just a warning guys.

Are you using Vegas Video 3.0c? I seem to recall that a bug having to do with MC bitrate got fixed in the "c" revision.

Dennis,

In valnar's original thread he mentions that he is using vv3.0c, but didn't have this issue previously unitl Sound Forge 6.0 was installed.

Valnar,

Did you ever use that low of a bit rate before updating to SF6?
