MPEG4 Editing Capabilities

Hello all -

It appears that Vegas is capable of editing MPEG4 video files, natively. The company I work for is in need of an NLE capable of handling MPEG4 clips, so Vegas is shaping up to be a very attractive option. I'm concerned, however, that MPEG4 is not OFFICIALLY supported by Vegas. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know if Sony has plans to officially support MPEG4 editing in future Vegas releases?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! (Especially the inside kind. . . heh.)

there are about 10 different types of mpeg4 -- which one do you mean ? vegas supports most of these just fine ..

some have an avi wrapper and some have a quicktime wrapper and some have a mpg suffix ..

Hey, thanks for the reply.

The MPEG4 format I'm speaking of is ASP. It seems to be working fine - but is it officially supported by Vegas? If not - do you know if there are plans to support it officially?

Thanks again -

The only issue is the codec, lots of things will work with Vegas without being 'officially' supported. It's almost like asking if each and every DV camcorder and VCR is supported by Vegas. I guess you could think that if something ships with Vegas then it's 'officially' supported however if it's product from a 3rd party it's difficult for them to do as there's licencing issues etc.
So I'd say if it works, it works.
