Yes. Sony's Mepg-4 is limited to 720x480 resolution and a 1,400,000 bitrate whereas the Mainconcept AVC encoder while allow HD resolutions with much HIGHER bitrates.

Unless its for your PSP, I would use MC's for rendering especially since it offers two pass whereas Sony's doesnt.
