MPG audio sync problems with VF 2.0

I'm using an All-In_Wonder RADEON board to capture '.mp2' broadcast video using the ATI Media Center capture. Now I have a 2.7Gig hour long capture, that I want to archive to one side of a 5.2Gig DVD-RAM. Simple, edit out the commercials and get a 43 min. capture that will fit. Buy VideoFactory 2.0. Activate VideoFactory, and it doesn't recognize the '.mpg' files, but the mpg files still play in Windows Media Player and the ATI file player with no problem. Activate the 'mpg plug-in' and the files load into VideoFactory, but now the audio and video are completely out of sync... in VideoFactory, Windows Media Player, and the ATI file player. Remove VideoFactory and the files play normally.... even files captured while VideoFactory and the mpg plug-in were activated. This is all on a new ATA-100 60 Gig hard disk, with a complete fresh install of Windows 98 SE, upgraded ATI video drivers and media center, and VideoFactory 2.0

In the same machine is also have a disconnected ATA-100 45 Gig hard disk running Windows 98, an older ATI driver and media center (v. 7.0) and VideoFactory 1.0 with the old 'mpg' plugin. With this setup I noticed a sync problem starting to happen about 30 mins. into a video capture/edit. I'd ungroup the video/audio and slid adjust the audio into sync for the cuts during the last half of the edit session. btw... before installing the 'mpg' plugin there wasn't a sync problem during playback.

And just for fun I installed the old 'mpg' plugin (without VideoFactory) onto the larger hard disk and had the out of sync problem during file playback until I removed it.

You could have saved yourself a lot of time if you would have spent a few minutes reading other threads in this forum. It is a known issue being worked on. Probably be a fix in a week or so.

This problem may not be related to the VidCap/Print to Tape audio sync issue you refer to. Most people are reporting that the audio is out of sync only when using the Print to Tape function of Vidcap 2.5. However, when using Windows Media Player or Vidcap 2.0e, sync is OK.

FWIW, I have an ATI TV Wonder which uses the same software as the AIW. I cannot capture ".mp2" files with audio in sync either (although plain vanilla MPEG-1 files are fine).

In addition, all my AVI files encoded with Fraunhofer's mp3 codec (for audio) also are out of sync in VF2 although they play fine in the Windows Media Player. I always thought it had something to do with the bit rate bug in the Fraunhofer codec but I could be wrong . . .

Anyway, here's hoping that the upcoming patch fixes everyone complaints (audio sync problems, "Where's the Trimmer!" problems, etc, etc.)

Sir,

we could have saved ourselves lot of time if the MPEG plugin was working correctly in the first place, as it is supposed to if it was properly tested prior to the release. Perhaps it escaped my attention, but I haven't noticed that reading of this forum is required!

I, for one, figured this problem out after 5 hours of rendering. It's not like this is minor bug that could have escaped QA attention - the MPEG plugin is virtually useless because of the sync problem.

Perhaps you can point us to the thread where the specific out of sync issues in MPEG are discussed. I, for one, was unable to find it.
