i am getting this message when i try and import mpg video into vegas:

File C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos\Video Extras\Samples\Video\P1-06.mpg could not be opened.

i have never had this problem before... does anyone know why this error message would be popping up now? i recently upgraded from Movie Studio to Vegas, and movie studio will not import mpg files either, but it did at one time... strange, thanks if you can help,

I am not sure about XP, but on older Windows versions (98 and ME), you had to have an MPEG player installed (like PowerDVD or WinDVD) for any application to be able to import or play MPEG files.

If you double-click on this file in Windows Explorer, does it play, and if so, what application plays it?

yes,

the mpg files all play fine in windows media or nero showtime, or any video program i have. it just won't open in vegas or movie studio...

it may be that it is not a program stream ...

multiplex it to a program stream with a multiplexer
