MPG launching explorer?

I'm vary wary of running app/.exes i find on the web
Never really worried about downloading files such as .mp3s, jpgs etc....

I was on bearshare tonight and downloaded some smut/girls gone wild .mpg (yes, shame on me) When i double clicked to play it - IE launched and brought up a few pages...
I HATE POPs.... Anyways, i didn't think that the mpg file format allowed for such
access to my system?

(i have the bearshare pro version (ie you have to pay for it) that is suppose
to be ad/spyware free... and has so far as i can tell... so it has to be the mpg file
thats doing it...

Any dangers in picking up stray mpegs?
How would you go about removing this code from the file??

I've read that jpegs can be manipulated to contain a virus.

Maybe the mpeg has some type of metadata, but you can try renaming it, or re-render in TMPEG or VV3. Now go clean out all that smut out of your temp internet folder:-0
