MPG playing too fast in Vegas

I have an MPG created from DVD by VOB2MPG which seems to play properly in video players VLC and WMP, but when I import it into Vegas, it plays really fast. I have the audio as separate wavs imported into Vegas as well, and I can't get the video and audio to sync up because the video plays so fast. What might the problem be?

A you saying you ripped the VOB files from a DVD and then used a program to convert them to an MPEG?

This seems a bit superfluous, since VOBs are MPEGs.

MPEG Streamclip can convert the VOBs from a DVD into DV-AVIs, the ideal format for editing in Vegas Movie Studio. That might be a wiser conversion, and one that will probably resolve your issue.

MPEG Streamclip is asking me to download something from apple. I am not going to do that at this time.

I ripped the dvd to my hard drive and am trying to find some way to convert that hardrive dvd file set to a file usable in Vegas. The only luck I have had in getting a DVD quality file is using VOB2MPG. However, when I import that file into Vegas, the audio sounds fine, but the video in the preview area rushes ahead of the audio. Also, the video sometimes loops frames or shows a couple of frames suddenly from a few seconds earlier. However, the audio never catches up because the video seems to be playing really fast. I can't tell if frames are being skipped or if the video is just playing at a faster then expected frame rate.

I tried simply using the Import DVD camcorder disc option which creates a set of mpg files, one for each dvd chapter. But these files do the same thing in Vegas, with the rushing and the stuttering. (Also, some of these chapter files only seem to contain the left and right front audio channels while others have all 6 audio channels.)

This is driving me crazy. How can i get a DVD quality file with all 6 dolby 5.1 audio channels out of a dvd file set for use in Vegas? Why is Vegas giving me problems with the MPGs from this dvd?

The chapter mpgs play just fine in WMP and VLC by the way.

DVDShrink will join the VOB segments into one long VOB that will open with its 5.1 Audio in Vegas, retaining its original bitrate and quality.
DVDShrink does not decrypt copy-protected content.

I believe that is what you want to do?
Are you using VMS 10?

I tried DVDShrink, but it created multiple VOB files. Will turning off the "Split VOB files into 1GB chunks" option remedy that? Also, how can I make sure that I get the same quality video and audio without any reduction in quality? Will using the "Automatic" compression setting do this? Does it matter if I choose dvd-5 or dvd-9 in the preferences?

Thanks so much for your help.

I am using Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10. I got a single VOB file from the DVD files, but I can't open it in Vegas. Any suggestions how to create a 5.1 audio avi file from a dvd?
musicvid10 wrote on 4/12/2011, 6:57 PM
I am puzzled because the files from DVDShrink open fine in Vegas Pro 8.0c, which is essentially the same engine as VMS10. the .vob extension is the way to get 5.1 audio along with the video. Are you sure they are unencrypted?

I'm not really sure about anything. I used DVDShrink to create a single VOB file (with associated IFOs) and I try to drag it into Vegas and get the error "None of the files dropped on Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum could be opened." If I use the Import Media option on the File menu, the VOB doesn't even show up. It's not in the list of Media File extensions that you can open. If I select "All Files" and try to open the VOB, I get the error "File E:\OutputFolder\Backup\VTS_01_1.VOB could not be opened."

I really don't know what to do here. I can't seem to create any kind of file from this DVD that I can use in Sony Vegas. What am I doing wrong? If it's an encryption issue, how do I make sure that the VOB that DVDShrink creates is unencrypted?

Every program I have downloaded, and I have downloaded many, can create different video files from my DVD files on my hard drive, but none of them work the way I want them to in Vegas. Either they won't import at all, I can't get DVD quality video, the audio doesn't come in with the video, the audio and video don't sync, the audio gets mixed down to 2 channels, the video stutters and jumps in the preview window, and the list of problems goes on and on.

There must be some way of getting this dvd movie into a single, dvd quality video file with unchanged 5.1 audio for simple import into Vegas.

The ongoing nightmare of trying to get this DVD into Sony Vegas for editing.

So I got Auto Gordian Knot. Created an XVid AVI with it. (Even on 100% quality, stupid auto gordian knot didn't give me the same quality video as I get when playing the vob. WTH!? D:<)

Anywho, tried to import the (lesser quality) AVI into Vegas. Only the video comes in. No Audio. GSpot tells me that I have the codecs, that the 5.1 audio is intact, and I can play the video in there, sound and all.

Why can't I import an XVid AVI and get the sound? I got the codecs installed.

Xvid is not an editing codec. I know of no software that will edit Xvid or Dvix natively. They're way too highly compressed.

I finally demultiplexed the video to an M2V file using DVD Decrypter stream processing and converted that file to a lossless AVI using VirtualDubMod. I also used DVD Audio Extractor to get the audio into WAV format for import into Vegas.

I which Sony Vegas could handle more video file formats.

Hi, there..

I encountered the same exact problem as you when trying to open vob files in Sony..but the solution is quite simple (embarrassingly so!). ;)

Just go to "project", then "open", or "import media", and where it says, "Files of type", scroll to the very top and click off "All Files". You should be able to search from there and see your vob files and import them into Sony. I do it all the time. :)

Jo
