Restarted the PC and tried again. This time it crashed at a different point with the following report. Having spent months at the end of last year with Vegas constatly crashing during renders I'm seriously thinking of looking for an NLE with something resembling support in the UK, which Vegas most definitely doesn't have. Hell, Sony UK hadn't even heard of Vegas...

#1) You should update Vegas 4.0c to Vegas 4.0e (the latest version of V4)

#2) What are your render-as settings?

Veggie_Dave wrote on 5/27/2004, 10:42 AM
I'm trying to render four 5 minute long DVDA PAL video stream MPG files as one DVDA PAL video stream file

Each time I try to render it crashes with around seven minutes of footage left to render (near the end of the third of the four original files)

Cut & paste this third file into a new project, however, and it renders perfectly

The settings are standard with project set to 'Best'

VG . . I'm back from Sleep Land!

Okay . . .

1 - Do progressive renders of samples of the files: 1 minute of file one .. plus 1 minute of file 2 . .. etc etc etc see if you can keep uping the amount.

2 - Try pre-rendering: Can you prerender this stuff? When I've had problems within AVI renders I do a prerender series first . .appears to iron-out issues - yeah?

3 - Try pre-rendering the problematic region the "Deadly Seven!" Your comment that the 3rd file in a new project renders perfectly begs that there is an issue in the 3rd to 4th "jump" yeah? Try a prerender of this area?

4 - My render settings are "Good" . . .that was the default from Sony .. I've never mucked about with this .. .

. . any good?

Grazie

I have tried to repro this in Vegas 4 and Vegas 5, works fine for me.

Do you by chance have a dual athlon, running hot?
Veggie_Dave wrote on 5/28/2004, 11:03 AM
Cheers for the advice, but sadly they won't work in this case
Veggie_Dave wrote on 5/28/2004, 11:04 AM
Unfortunately not - however, it has just had all of the latest Windows XP Pro updates installed on it and I tried using an external USB drive last week, too

Just checked the system and since these two changes I appear to have also lost the ability to search for images on that PC - non-thumbnailed search results are fine, just image searches...

Any ideas before I format the drive and build the system again from scratch?
