MS 13 - anyone tried 4K?

Although I have no way of viewing it properly I thought it would be interesting to try the new 4K mode. I created a simple 12 second slide show with four pictures then rendered to Sony XAVC S. About halfway into the render I got a message from Windows saying it wanted to close Studio 13 due to a lack of memory. I didn't agree to it's request but it closed anyway. I have only 8GB. I think I am not ready for 4K just yet!

Did you make sure that your Preview monitor quality was set to Draft or Preview so that the automatic proxy editing was enabled?

My preview monitor was on preview-half. My project was set to 4K 2160 50fps (3840x2160) and this was shown in the monitor status correctly. It previewed ok. I added a title and cross fades. SInce I had only loaded still images I'm not sure the proxy editing applies. I also added generated colour bars. They were shown as the correct size. It all seems to be working until I render then I ran out of memory but it was Windows which complained - I've never seen that before.

I tried again with colour bars and one image, just 6 seconds. It took 1 minute to render to XAVC S. This time it worked ok. I brought it into the timeline and after a delay preview was whizzy so presumably the proxy was in use. I coulndt tell otherwise.

I wondered what the requirements are or is it a bug in memory management. Interesting but I have no use for it. Still, it's only a matter of time...!
