MS 16 Platinum - Stops working when navigating the Explorer window

I have had some escalating problems with Movie Studio 16 Platinum, build 175. They seem to be centered around navigating in the Explorer window of the application, or at least that is where it has started. Initially, the application would start up and most of the thumbnails of various graphics files would show. If I selected one that didn't have a thumbnail, only the name showed, the spinning disk would show and then I would get the "Movie Studio Platinum has stopped working" dialog. It's at the point now where even just navigating to another folder will cause the application to stop working and sometimes I don't even need to navigate, it just stops working and shuts down shortly after opening. After responding to the shut down, i.e., filling out the info in the dialog, I get a dialog from Magix with a link to reinstall the application. I uninstalled, per the Magix procedure, then reinstalled the application with no change, I still get the same issue. I have ensured that my Win 10 is current, and have also ensured that my nVidia GTX 760 drivers are current.

System:

MB: ASUS w/ 16GB of memory

CPU: i7

Graphics: nVidia GTX 760, 2GB of GDDR5

OS: Win 10 Pro, 64bit

What so odd is that just a couple of weeks ago all was working fine. I am curious is Microsoft sent out a Win 10 update that impacted Movie Studio. I have had that happen with other applications, albeit infrequently.

Any guidance would be appreciated

Thank you

That is the Vegas MS that I use and I am able to browse the explorer window as though it were a legitimate explorer window. I switched from Details to Thumbnails and still did not experience any issues.

I did get a crash when using raw vertical video from my phone in my every-other-clip-is-horizontal compilation, and like you I filled out the form and got the download link with no explanation. I did not install it however. I'm not sure what that's about.

After posting my issue I still kept trying to work it. I was trying to pull an AVI file into my project. It was just over 26GB. I had no issues with it with Windows Explorer or playing it with Media Player, but apparently there was something about it that MS 16 File Explorer didn't like. It was the culprit that was locking up the application. I fixed the problem by converting it to an MP4 file that was considerably smaller and ensuring I started the application from default and clearing the cache. What was throwing me off was that I had two other AVI files, one just under 26GB and one almost 23GB, and neither had any impact on MS 16. Additionally, once the application had the problem and shut down a restart and/or reinstall didn't help. I had to start using the cntl + shift option and select clear the cache in the dialog box.

To sum it up I was able to fix my issue but with a lot of troubleshooting, lots of help from this Forum in other comments helped considerably. I thing File Explorer in the application should operate seamlessly like Windows Explorer and while there may be a file MS 16 doesn't like it shouldn't lock up the application by just showing in Explorer with no attempt to open it. Might be something the Movie Studio technicians might want to look at.

Hope this helps others.
