MS Mixdown

I could have sworn when I was first exploring Vegas I saw a reference in it, or one of the plug-ins to MS matrixing. At the time I saw it, I thought this is cool, I'll have to remember that if I ever do a large live group again. Well, I just did another live big group using MS, and now I can't figure out where I saw the reference in Vegas or the plug-ins. I realize I can set up the matrix on the Vegas mixer without any additional software help, but if Sonic has a tool to get the most out of MS, I sure would like to give it a try.

Anyone else remember seeing something about processing MS (mid-side) recordings in Vegas?

Im one of the MS nuts. Hyperprism makes a decent MS decoder, but now with phase switches inside vegas, and buss tracks, I have a lot better time just doing it the old fashioned way! Duplicate the S track, pan them hard left and right, phaseflip one of them, and then bring up the M.

Waves and others make " ms matrixes" but without any controls or a way to be sure what they are doing

I prefer to do it the old fashioned way too. Never had access to a built matrix. On the other hand I did build a cable to flip the phase on a channel when I had to deliver the mix immediately following the performance. My portable board doesn't have a phase switch. I guess I must have imagined the "MS setting" in Vegas. Probably a good reason for not being able to find it now. :)

Have you ever noticed a difference depending on which channel channel (left or right) you flip the phase on?

You shouldn't unless there's something wrong with your bi-directional microphone, or the gains don't match on the two channels.
