I have some time now to tell what I did
Step 1. on dig up of the net DivX_3.11 and install it (DivX3.20 may also work).
Step 2. Also get divX4.11 full install and install it

Hey presto it works at an option in the render type.
You might get all you need at http://www.divx.com
I tryed just installing DivX4.11 on it own at it would not work, so I installed 3.11 (I have used this before) then installed 4.11 over the top and it worked.

Good Luck - Persist as the results are fantastic

another way... (if you want to render to ASF, which has that codec as a choice)

THE TRICK:
install VV2.0b (or i think 'd' would work too)

then you will have the ability to render to ASF in subsequent versions of VV2 (just install VV2.0h on top of 2.0b or 'd')

You'll have ASF rendering in VV3 also if you install that early version of VV2, but with a catch. you have to 'customize' your presets in VV2. you can CHOOSE your render presets in VV3, but you can't edit or create them (CUSTOM button is disabled). i keep VV2 open in the background and work add presets through its rendering dialog. then they show up in VV3 when i go into 'Render As' and choose ASF. no restarting of Vegas is necessary.

i've asked a few times (tech support and this forum) why ASF rendering was dropped, but no answer yet. anyone?

I tried what you suggested, but I'm a bit unsure of the results. I can only see the Divx 4.11 codecs under custom video format, and here you can configure 4.11, but not fast or low motion. The save file type as, what should it be?? I rendered a clip using video for windows (.avi), but selected a custom template and used the divx 4.11 codec, and save dthe file as .divx. The rendered file was 75% the size of the mpeg 2 file. I then upped the bit rate and one pass high qaulity and the file was 250% the size of mpeg2. Both times quality was good, but not as good as the main actor rendered mpeg 2. I then used the fast motion divx codec, and the file is 50% of the mpeg2, but not as good quality.

Sooo, I'm not sure if I am doing this right or what results to expect. The files play in the playa, so they appear to be divx files (icon says so).

Any ideas would be great??

Thanks

Paul

i'm not sure what you are looking for exactly.

MS-MPEG4 V3 is a codec for ASF files. if you aren't rendering to ASF, then you can't use the codec.

DivX3.11 (low motion and fast motion) is an illegal hack of the MS-MPEG4 codec which enables you to render to AVI using the souped up warez version of MS-MPEG-4.

DivX4 is a completely re-written codec that is completely legal and has nothing to do with DivX3 (except the name) or the MS-MPEG4 codec.

with that out of the way... what is your question exactly?
