MS11 Platinum crashes on audio render - urgent :-(

John Roberts wrote on 11/18/2012, 6:32 AM
Hi all...

Similar to someone else on the forum, I am eperiencing problems rendering audio. I have used MS11P without any major issues since I installed it, my last edit was over an hour of full HD tutorials taken from over 110Gb of footage, and MS never even blinked!

Now I am trying to render a sub 5 minute film, but it's crashing when I am trying to render the audio. No changes have been made to the computer - no installs or updates - because it has been working fine, now it's not. No error messages, it just stops.

I've now resorted to updating the PC, just in case there was in issue with Windows7 or somesuch, but MS still crashes. It's been working fine for months, and now with a competition deadline of 3 days away I can't even render my finished film...

Please can someone help, or let me know what (scant) information I need to post for some possible solutions...?

Many thanks in anticipation - John

These are some of the error messages I am getting when I try and render the audio only. The AVC video file rendered OK. The following are for w64, WAV and w64 attempts at audio renders. I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS11, still no joy...

OK - here is where I am now.

Because I don't remember this problem on any of my previous projects, I loaded an older movie and viewed and rendered it without any problems. The latest movie however, crashed as soon as I tried to render it. This leads me to believe that there is some kind of issue with one of clips in use on the timeline.

As an experiment I ungrouped and deleted all the audio parts of the clips that weren't in use (this movie is almost 90% background music and narrative and overdubs) and tried again...

Without any problems at all I have managed to render the required Blu-Ray discs and mp4 file for use on my computer, again reinforcing my opinion that there is a fault within one of the clips as opposed to Vegas itself or the OS. I haven't tried locating the errant clip and reimporting it basically because the movie project now appears to work.

If I experience any further problems I'll post them to the forum but I thought I'd let everyone know that up to now the issue has been worked-around. In this case I was guilty of blaming Vegas for something that probably wasn't it's fault and jumping to the conclusion that everything I was loading onto the timeline was perfect when it appears it probably isn't.

Hope this helps someone else :-)

If you'd care to post the details of your audio that is not working using MediaInfo, someone may be able to offer some insight.

Hi musicvid, thanks for the reply

I'm assuming mediaInfo is some kind of software that can display a lot of data about an audio clip? The problem I have is that I don't know what audio clip is corrupt (assuming that one is actually corrupt) because I simply removed everything that wasn't needed from the project, which now seems to work OK.

All clips play back fine when viewed on their own, visually and audibly, so short of returning to my 'corrupt' project and removing each audio part one by one, then going through the entire rendering process each and every time, I'm not sure how I would be able to identify which of the clips might be 'corrupt'?

Any suggestions? :-)

When you have found the culprit, MediaInfo is a free download from Sourceforge.

I think I may have found the errant file. Vegas more often than not appeared to crash at a similar place so I removed a couple of clips at around this point, then rendered a full HD file with just the blank spaces, no problem. Then added one file to the timeline and did the same - no problem.

Added the second file and speeded it up (as is required) and Vegas failed even when only viewing the timeline. Deleted the clip and added only the speeded up video component of the clip and Vegas seemed to be OK. Now added the audio only component of the clip and speeded it up to match, and I am currently rendering an HD movie, so far without issue.

I'll look at MediaInfo tomorrow and load the clip into it to see what it says and copy it here.

Many thanks so far :-)
