MS13 Dual monitor- Preview fullscreen...

While I have a growing list of things that I think are seriously misguided in MS13 - significant steps backward in workflow, one thing in particular that's a problem for me is when running video preview on an external monitor only - which has been my normal way of working previously. There no longer seems to be any transport controls in the main editing window, and of course running the video preview externally you don't have access to the the transport buttons that are found at the bottom of the usual preview window. So, for now it seems to use on an external monitor I also now need to have the preview window docked so I can have access to those transport controls. Of course my main reason for using an external monitor was so I can free up real-estate for FX, Transitions, Pan/Crop windows etc. I was just wondering if there was a way to get transport controls back in the main editing window?? I realise using hot-keys is an option... but I guess I'm used to mouse clicking. AND speaking of hot-keys, are there keys for the new fade, envelope, normal editing buttons? Now having to click these is actually proving a real nuisance even though I'm generally a mouse-centric user by habit.

I have the same problem, I use two monitors too. I actually like the bigger buttons but to have no transport buttons is just crazy. All we can do is keeping plugging away at them - also need buttons for Ripple and Ignore Group and select tool. The pop-up menu is no use because it doesnt show the button state. Better still bring back customise buttons.
Having said that I am using a USB keypad for transport and other functions so I dont actually need all of the on-screen buttons. See my Keypad program at http://www.darkwooddesigns.co.uk/pc2/keypad.html It sits under my left hand with fwd - stop - reverse, split, trim, ripple etc under my fingertips, and the mouse in the right as usual and that works very well for me for quick assembly/cutting of clips. It does affect the normal keypad too but is not a problem. Unfortunately I cant distinguish between the two.

The Countour Design Shuttle XPress (they also have a bigger Pro version) is very handy for editing. The center control (with the finger dimple) is a frame by frame control. The ribbed ring around it is a spring loaded fast forward / fast reverse control (speed determined by how far you turn the ring) The five buttons can be user programmed to any keystroke you want (NOTE: if you don't want to buy anything look up 'keystroke controls')

Looks very sexy but doesn't have enough buttons. The pro version costs twice as much as Movie Studio but my solution costs almost nothing - maybe £4 for a usb keypad!

That looks pretty handy! I must check local pricing and availability for extended keypads. Presumably you have to run the app at start-up or manually prior to launching MS? How does the keypad behave when Movies Studio is not running?

I'd love to have a similar thing for my Music production software as well. Nice affordable idea :)

It's a shame about shortcut keys in MS many which are pretty awkward to reach with one hand. Meanwhile, I just discovered hitting 'D' actually cycles through the various editing modes. I did not know that!

You can run my little app manually either before or after Movie Studio. It has no effect on other programs - it only translates the keypad keys when there is "Movie Studio" in the active window title. I agree some of the shortcut keys are bizarre such as Ctrl-shift-U for Ignore group. I use that all the time and it's impossible with one hand, and now 13 doesn't have a button anywhere for that.
I had planned to make it customisable but there hasn't been much interest so I haven't bothered.

Yes, the controls are missing on the main editing screen....

The jog keys J/K/L work for reverse/stop/forward. Press multiple times for faster playback.

The more I use the num pad, the more comfortable I get. You won't miss the transport controls. For a good tutorial, see Creative Cow
