MSP 13 - Render times Sony AVC vs. MainConcept

Hi,

as a frustraded Cyberlink PD12 user, which have changed to MSP13 Suite, i want to say that i am soooo satisfied and very excited abot MSP13! It works perfect and after 3 hours of 'learning' i was able to produce my first holiday videos with amazing results (of course for me it is amazing ).

I have a question about the render times: I compared the MainConcept and Sony AVC/MVC render times and noticed that Sony always much faster. The same project will take with Sony AVC ~7 minutes and MainConcept takes ~ 18 minutes.

I am using a Nvidia GTX670, Windows7 and tried every GPU accel. setting (CUDA,OpenCL...) but Sony AVC wins all the time.

Is that normal that the Sony AVC is much faster than MainConcept? I am totally satisfied with the Sony AVC result but was wondering that MainConcept is so slow.

Best regards,
Marco

Different codecs will yield different render times. The difference is in the details such as quality and requierements. Window's wmv format, for instance, will take very long to render - the result is pretty decent, but mostly it will only be playable on computers and some limited hardware.
Don't worry too much about this, thouhg, just choose what works best for your system and hardware.

Sony AVC does not do two passes.
It uses a quantizer algorithm to accomplish this at good quality.
Even faster times at high quality are possible in Handbrake with CRF.
