MSP16: Weird logo zoom problem

RgVideo wrote on 12/7/2019, 8:16 PM

Got a bizarre situation with the latest build of MSP16 Platinum running on a Win7 Toshiba laptop.

Have a PNG logo overlaid on a solid color background (2 tracks total).  Logo zooms from small to large.  If I use Scrub or Play everything looks good in the Preview window.  However, if I render a video, both the Preview window and rendered file have the logo growing past the borders of the overlay.

If I go to the logo pan/crop keyframes and click on the the Last Keyframe icon, the logo size is correct in the Preview window.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ralph

Is it slighty out or way out?

When previewing something like this it helps to temporarily change the preview quality to Best Full to accurately see what you will get. Do this at the last keyframe position to check.

When rendering the preview window automatically changes to your chosen render quality so you are obviously accurately seeing the result at "Best".

Here are 2 screen shots showing problem. I noted that when rendering the Preview window automatically changes to Best. Rendered file matches bad logo position screenshot.

You have your project in the first window set on 864x1080 but you are rendering at 1920x1080 so I'm not surprised you have a problem.

Alter your project size to 1920x1080. Is there a reason for the odd 864x1080?

Oops, my bad.  Thanks for catching it.

Originally I didn't have this problem, because I used the Advanced options with Make Movie.  Then at some point, to save time, I skipped Advanced.  Guess I thought resolution would be the same as last try. Googling tells me Project-->Render As would take me directly to Advanced, so I'll use that from now on.

Why doesn't Make Movie default resolution match my 864x1080 project resolution?

BTW, video is for Instagram with the phone held vertically and not using the full screen height.

Thanks for your help. I'm not a total newbie to MSP, but close to it. 🙂

@RgVideo

Why doesn't Make Movie default resolution match my 864x1080 project resolution?

It does.
But first the program has to recognize such a template.
So make once such a customized template and save that template.
If you after that choose Make Movie in VMS16 that template will be rendered.
Look at my made example for you

j-v:

Thanks for the video.  However, I cannot repeat your results.

I did Project-Properties and made and saved a template for 864x1080. It shows up in the Templates list.  However, when I render the output is still 1920X1080 (see pics).  I tried starting a brand new project using the saved custom properties (864x1080) and get the same result.

This not a big problem for me now that I know using Advanced for rendering I can get what I want.  Would be nice to know why I can't replicate your video, however.  Will probably end up being a "cockpit error" on my part. 🙂

BTW, I saw a comment on the Web about Make Movie not always using the proper resolution.

Thanks,
Ralph

Yes I suspect it may be operator error!

After clicking on "Advanced Options' in your first image all your templates (unless you have a filter applying) should appear in a large "Render As" window. Select your saved template from there, check the template Info, folder, name and Render.

@RgVideo

I did Project-Properties and made and saved a template for 864x1080.

That is NOT what I did and not what you tried and asked for.
You want not a template for projectproperties, but you want that automatic rendertemplate at "Make Movie".
Therefore you must once customize an advanced rendertemplate to the exact specs you want and than save that one with the map symbol in advanced options on the top, so it becomes displaying in the advance renderlist under your choosen codec to use.

Than the program recognises that rendertemplate to use for your used projectsettings in Make Movie without going to Advanced Options.

I plead guilty to multiple counts of Operator Error. 🙂 Thanks to both of you for your help!
