A number of possibilities -

try this first and see what happens Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall Sony Media Manager ---- Restart

You may also have to check into your administrative rights for this kinds of subversive activities

This is happening on some systems. I'm trying to figure out if that is the real issue "permissions" or just some error the MS OS generates that's "close" to the problem. My guess, it's not really a permissions issue. I get the same message on my laptop and a re-install won't help you. I don't know what will yet, but if I figure it out I'll post.

OK. I fixed it.

If you uninstall (as I did) and try to reinstall you will get the error. I uninstalled with the add or remove software under control panel. I suspected there may have been files left on my hard drive so I went to the program files, found sony, then vegas 6, then sony media manager and deleted that folder. When I reinstalled, I got no error. Media manager loaded fine, and I was able to cature error free with both my FX1 and my Sony trv230 DV camera. As of right now I AM HAVING NO PROBLEMS WITH VEGAS 6! I am so thankful because I have used versions 4 and 5 and am pleased to see the HD support in this version.
