.mts and VMS 9.0

Anyone know if my VMS 9.0 can handle .mts files? They're not HD files as I only shot in xp+ mode (12 mbps). My Canon can shoot full HD, but I shot everything in standard def. I assumed I had to reedit my entire project for fear that my .mts files would mess things up or that vms 9 wouldn't be able to handle those files. I switched cameras mid-project which was a mistake, but the circumstances called for it. Can I import those files to vms9 without trouble?

The challenge is that those files are likely encoded as AVC, even if they are standard def.

You might be better off shooting in AVCHD (full HD) and using a project setting that matches the specs.

The biggest challenge is if your computer is able to handle the extra load. AVCHD is a pretty intensive format to edit, so it can take a good i7 or quad core system to move it around.

How difficult and time-consuming would it be for you to drag one of them to the timeline and find out?

ah, good question. I shall attempt that later. I have two computers. I think I have vms 9 on my newer computer - a quadcore. I'll have to try it on that one as the files from the Canon won't even load onto my old computer. I was too nervous to try it at first, but you're right Chien, I'll just try it. I'll make sure to save my project as a backup first.

Don't ever be nervous. It works or it doesn't.

I'll make sure to save my project as a backup first.

Do a "Save As" frequently giving your project a new version number each time. This way you can go back to a previous version if needed. It's no problem for me to get into the 40s.

Project Name 1
Project Name 2
Project Name 3
etc.

Don't try it with your active project first. Just start a new project, drag one of the files to the timeline, and see how it goes. You should know near instantly whether it's going to be a problem or not.
