mts files not importing

I have a new Vixia HFS10. I have a mostly done project that I recorded with a Sony standard def camera so when i got the Vixia, I recorded 15 final clips I needed in XP mode thinking it's similar to the standard def the project is in. I have two computers - my new quad core recognized the Canon no prob. But my old computer that has Vegas Movie Studio and my project on it doesn't recognize the Canon at all. I've done everything I can following all the Canon recommendations but that computer still will not allow me to import the Vixia files. Can someone give me some tips as to possibly converting the .mts files that the Canon clips are in on my new computer to .mpg files that the Sony recorded in so I can import them into my project? (and move them onto my old computer. Thanks tons.

Please provide the system spec, Vegas version, and file specs you are trying to import.

my old computer is XP, 2.3G processor, 3 or 4G Ram, (not sure about what specs you want), it's just not recognizing the Canon Vixia so i can't import the .mts files there. I'm not trying to directly import them into Vegas Movie Studio - just onto the computer, and the computer won't recognize the cam. I can, however, import them into my new computer, a quadcore, AMD 3GHz processor, 4G RAM, etc. Everything goes smoothly when I transfer to that one, so I know all the steps to take, it's just the computer. I'm thinking I'm going to convert the .mts files to .mpg (MPEG2) and get them onto my old comptuer and into VMS (9.0 by the way) that way.

1) You are not connecting your Camcorder via a USB hub, are you? See: http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?27848-PC-won-t-detect-Canon-HF-S10 2nd to last post.
2) If you get this to work, you will be very unhappy with a 2.3Ghz (p4, I assume) computer trying to edit AVCHD video. You just don't have the horsepower on that computer.

Good Luck!

nope, I'm not planning or even trying to edit AVCHD on the old computer. But I do have an HD camcorder (the Vixia) that I shot some final segments with - however, I did not shoot in 1080 or even in 720, I shot in XP mode which is the highest setting for standard def as far as I know. And yes, I'm connecting via USB on the computer. I've figured it out. The .mts files must be converted to MPEG2 which is what my entire project on that old computer is in. I'll post when it's a success...

I found two different file converters. I used one to convert my 16 clips to MPEG-2 format, then burned them onto a disk and used that to transfer them to my old computer. Oddly, Quicktime doesn't recognize the file format and won't play them, but I can import them into Movie Studio with no problems. My only issue is that there is slight choppyness during playback in VMS. I'm not sure how to remedy it. I'm going to try the other converter to see if it helps. I don't know enough tech to know what would be causing this. The converter I used is a free trial, but workedbetter for me since one can convert a file up to 3 minutes long (with no watermark). The other one I want to try has the watermark throughout but will be worththe money if it's smooth.
