multi-PIP help needed

I am trying to do some multiCam work. I own Gary's Excalibur application.

I am trying to figure out the initial usage of the MultiCam wizard. In the introductory video on www.vegastrainingandtools.com during the MultiCam overview, the top track shows 4 track-motion (I assume) clips. The video, as well has the PDF file that came with Excalibur, reommend working with a track set up like this.

My problem is nowhere am I told *how* to set up a track like this. I *do* know how to configure track-motion ON A SINGLE TRACK and have it move above a lower track; this does not seem to work the same way for multiple tracks (at least it is not working for me :( )

I thought it might have to do with some parenting, but the heirarchy guides are not visible in the video. Also, the track-motion icons are not hilighted on the tracks below the first one. I am really REALLY lost and confused on this. HELP!

(not meaning the caps as yelling, but as emphasis. I am getting frustrated though, so maybe they can be growls or something ;) )

TIA

Doc

Very simple. Apply Track Motion to the tracks containing the source video. Resize and position each camera so that all are visible at once. Creating PIPs is a topic covered in Vegas Tips, Tricks, and Scripts. The tracks DO NOT need a parent/child relationship.

I guess my confusion comes in in that the multiPIP view appears to be in its *own* track, while the original clips remain in their own tracks.

If you look at the video, you will see what I mean.

If you need to, for speed purposes, you can render the PIP'd screen and place it on its own separate track. That way you can still get 29.97 instead of a reduced frame rate. That is an optional step.

Never mind. I give up.

Jetdv, thanks for trying, but either I am not making myself clear, or I am simply not gathering enough info from your responses.

None else seems to be forthcoming, so the hell with it.

Disappointed.

I haven't seen the stuff you're working on, but i just created a very "bare bones" project with four video tracks pip'd over a background track. There's nothing else to this project file at all, so hopefully it may be less confusing.

http://www.chienworks.com/media/multipip/

It's a Vegas 4.0c .veg file, so you may not be able to open it with previous versions.

Maybe this will help ...

When you see the four video tracks on screen, it may seem as if they've all been put on a single track, but you are in fact still looking at the four separate video tracks, each reduced in size and placed in one of the four "corners" of the screen.

This is done using Track Motion - it takes about 5 seconds for each track.

Hang in there - once the penny drops, it's very easy, and a great way to edit multi camera jobs.

Oh good God.

Again, I appreciate the attempts; Cheinworks, that veg file *did* clarify some things for me regarding Track Motion, in general.

Has anyone bothered to *look* at the video to understand what I mean? There is a *completely* *seperate* *track* containing multiple PIP of the *other* *two* *tracks*.

I am not talking about the preview window. I am talking about a seperate, discrete track, and I am lost as to how/why it is there.

Never mind...I figured it out.

The multiPIPd footage was rendered out, then brought back in as an additional clip.

Sheesh.

jetdv hit upon what I was looking for, in his second post, but his meaning was unclear to me. He was exactly on to what I was confused about
