Multicam Script

david-murray wrote on 5/12/2015, 9:49 AM
Is there a script for multicam that will automatically insert cuts and select takes in a specified sequence?

Suppose I have three sources: wide and close from the same angle, and the third source is from a side angle.

So, in my example, I would like to run a script that would chop up my prepared multicam track, say, every 8 seconds, in the following order: wide, side, close, side and repeat. At that point, I could play the result and make any minor tweaks.

As it is, I have to play it once to insert the cuts manually, and then play it back to check to be sure the cuts are OK.

I am running Vegas 9, by the way on a Windows 7 desktop computer made by ASUS. (I plan to upgrade eventually, but both Vegas 11 and 12 demos crashed when I tried to run them on my current computer...going to have to upgrade hardware before upgrading software.)

There is Vegas' native Multicam Edit mode.
There is Vegasaur.

Yes, I already understand how to set up several sources files to edit in multicam mode. I'm looking for a script I could run that would go through and automatically put cuts in place to save the time of doing those myself. The script I'm imagining would do a rough cut that I could then tweak.

I looked at Vegasaur, but I didn't see anything described like I'm talking about. Also, Vegesaur requires Vegas 11 and up, I think.

Vegasaur 1.x works in Vegas 8+, but in any case it does not have what you are looking for.
You need a custom script...

You should try my script "Automatic Multicam Editing".
i can't remember if it work with VP9.

You CAN do this in Vegasaur, although it's a bit of a kludge. It makes use of Vegasaur's Marker and Split functions and it's ability to select every nth event. I tried it in V13 and it will work. Since Vegasaur supports V9, I'll try to spell out the procedure if you're still interested.

VASST makes Infiniticam. I use it and it works nicely.
Occasionally it handles moving the markers a bit weird, but I lays everything out in a nice user interface. http://vasst.com/store/vasst-software/infiniticam.aspx

Apologies to add a message to this rather old thread but I regularly work in VEGAS Pro's multicam edit mode and, as is the original poster, would like to somehow automate the 1st rough cut process, i.e. letting VEGAS Pro split the multicam track at every x seconds and select a take on a sequential (or even random) order of the multicam track consisted of, say, video tracks 1 through 6. Is there such a convenient script or utility to allow this dream function? I have Vegasaur and it can indeed split the multicam track at a regular interval but it does not have yet functionality to select a take out of the split multicam track. Thank you for your attention/assistance in advance.

@JoelsonForte, Thank you for your quick reply. Thank you for even creating a tutorial video. Much appreciated.

@altarvic, Brilliant!! I just upgraded to Vegasaur 3.3 and it indeed has this nifty Quick Properties / Takes. Thank you very much for providing me with this excellent advice! This function does look to be promising for my need.
