Multichannel render problems

FYI: I've submitted a ticket on this.

Rendering to AVI or MOV container with 6 channel audio (surround) using these codecs:

Sony YUV (AVI)
Cineform (AVI)
DNxHD (MOV)

In Vegas 10 Sony YUV and Cineform AVI work fine with 6 channels. DNxHD MOV does not even though it supports up to 32 channels. Standard Sorenson MOV DOES work with 6 channels.

In Vegas 11 b521 and earlier NONE of these work for 6 channels and give an error like "project properties are incompatible with these settings". Same error for DNxHD in V10. Actually anything more than 2 channels fails.

Note: Same project used for all tests. V10 works in the first 2 cases and V11 does not on the identical project.

I thought Cineform only supported stereo. Not so?

Rocky, when you find a solution to this or an easy way to remux DNxHD, I'm interested. My hunt has hit a dead end for time being.

MusicVid, I follow your posts and use the DNxHD/HB method you figured out so I'll more then glad to keep you up to date and also of course post here.

Peter, I think it's the avi container that accepts multichannel in the mux stream. I render to cineform for the video and uncompressed 24 bit 6 channel for the audio. There are drop downs to 32 channels but I haven't tried them.

I put the rendered file on the timeline in vegas and all 6 channels are there. I think I had some success a while back getting Handbrake to make multichannel h.264/aac/MP4. I think I used the Sony YUV. I want to use DNxHD but it will only render to stereo even in V10.

I also think VLC was able to play it back in surround. I'll be testing this sometime soon I hope.
