Multilingual DVD

Hi,
I have one more question.
My DVD is going to be multilingual.

I want to select the language first in a menu, before the user gets anything else.

I haven´t found any info how I can set the language in a menu. On page 109 of the PDF User Guide it says the DVD player is going to attempt to determin the appropiate default audio track, and that the viewer can choose which track is played during playback.

I use two different types of videos for this DVD:
1. Videos with written text (in different languages)
2. Videos without written text
Both of them will get audio in different languages.

How can I get the user to select the language in a menu, so that video and audio langue is set at once.

Do I have to render the same video with different audio? That will expand the size of the DVD. I wish I could use the same video and just add the different languages afterwards in DVDA3

I hope you all understand what I mean, because I am not sure if I would.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Wolfgang

Make the language selection menu your First Play menu.
You can then branch to two different menus that the options
are in the language selected.

For each button you can set what angle, subtitle, and audio track
to use. The default is "no change". You actually render the
video. Then the default audio track., usally AC3. Then additional
audio track(s). The additional tracks are added in DVDA3.

What is the written text? Could this be subtitles? Subtitles will
take less space. If you have a scene with a closeup of a book...
you may want to try using alternate angles for just the section
where the book is visable with English and perhaps German
versions of the book.

When you add audio tracks you will see "--" to the right. Click
on the "--" and a pull down selection will appear. You can identify
the language here.

OT: a program called IFOEDIT can look at the customer's DVD
player's setup to find the language they are and modify your
settings. That is far more complex and trickier.

RCourtney,
you seem to be pretty active in this forum, so thank you one more time.

Sorry, but I didn´t quite get what you meant with your answer.

The language selection will be the first to choose, and there will be 6 languages. From here the menu will split into 6 branches.

When I am talking about written text, I mean that the name of the menu (or better said, the name of the category) will allways be shown to tell the people where they actually are, and there will be some written text to help the people to easier understand.

Because the DVD has quite a lot of graphic work, It won´t look too good to have subtitles doing that job.

I´m afraid that I am going to have all the videos in every single language on the DVD, but this will mean I need at least two of them.

Thanks again for your help,
Wolfgang
