Multimedia interactive cd-rom & DVD

I would like to create multimedia cd's and dvd's. The type with auto run to a main page with links to various parts of the disc.

Example, load a cd, it opens to the "homepage" of the disc and displays a sort of menu for our local community. That menu lists would link to the, best restaurant, the best entertainment locations and so on, on the disc.

Can I do this in Vegas? I realize the ability to burn the disc is there, but to easily create this type of media can it be done with Vegas or would another program be better?

Thanks,

Chris

No. You can prepare the video and audi files for this but here are few choices:

Cheap one is from Multimedia Builder from www.mediachance.com ( I use it for quick mockups, simple intros)
Expensive but powerfull is Macromedia Director from www.macromedia.com ( I use this one when it's time to impress )
I am sure there might be other ways also but this is what comes to my mind right now

One more idea, you could probably do something of this sort with DVD Architect, but not sure how practical that would be as it would much more costly per each unit distributed.

No, Vegas does not do anything like this.

There are several programs at Download.com that do this sort of thing. Some wil require you to use PhotoShop or similar program to create your graphics, some have that capability built in. I've used Autorun Maestro, which was sufficient enough for the project I had going.

Here's another idea - I've built quite a few interactive CDs using Adobe Acrobat and also good ole PowerPoint.
There's huge functionality in both and the new Version 6 of Acrobat also lets you embed video files completely. Of course I edit the video in vegas.
Clients like the results.
You can also use DVD X Point to convert a PowerPoint presention - with full interactivity - to a platform independent DVD. Control it from the remote.

Want an EASY & FREE way to make autorun CDs? Check out:

http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptautorun.asp

This offers menus and you can customize it:

http://www.m2cdpro.com/

Both work great. I went throught the same ordeal trying to find a simple program that could do a lot cool things.

I make lots of interactive CD Roms and use Mediator 7 Pro from
www.matchware.net

It's not free, but it's extremely powerful and WYSIWYG, using simple drag and drop icons to achieve some complex programming.
