Am I missing something obviuos here?

You are missing something, but don't feel bad: It is not obvious. Sony needs to do a better job in their marketing literature and documentation to let people know that they've added this very powerful, new feature.

The answer is that you can now create a music compilation that includes menus. Despite its name, a music compilation can include both videos and still pictures. The real difference between a music compilation and a menu-based DVD (using Sony's terminology), is that in a music compilation, the assets are combined into one "movie," with the original components separated by chapter marks.

The one, fairly major, downside is that I don't think you can add any additional chapter markers to the music compilation. It is really frustrating, because you can see the media chapter marks on the timeline and you can scrub the timeline, but for some reason, the "add chapter" icon is grayed out, and pressing "M" doesn't do anything.

Sony: Can this be added to 2.0a?

Sounds like you're using a FAT32 formatted drive. Change to NTFS and it will write one large file instead. Of course you can't use NTFS with Win98 or WinME.
