Multiple AVI print to tape

ram7932 wrote on 9/20/2001, 12:20 AM
Printing one AVI is easy with the capture programs print to tape feature. What I have not figured out how to do is link several AVI's together for the print. The VV prog will break up AVI's into the system limit 4GB. I am trying to put together a video that is 40 mins long and has more than one AVI. How does the capture's print to tape function support this? Are there options in the case that this does not work?

The multi segmented avi files (FAT 32) that Vegas spits out will play as a group when you load the first one into VidCap, AFAIK.
I'm not using VidCap for print-to-tape, because Pinnacle Studio DV works so good for me. Not only can I load as many unrealated avi files as I want (up to the 2 hour limit), but I can cut and paste anywhere with no rerendering. It really works slick, not to mention I can add titles via Title Decko, and it only rerenders those parts with titles.

Gosh, HPV, I hate to appear dense, but, what does AFAIK mean? I was not aware that VidCap could print multiple avi's seemlessly to tape, and I don't fully understand your reply. If you would, please walk me through it step by step . . . thanks.

BTW, I agree that Studio DV is a wonderful tool for printing to tape, and I like their TitleDeiko, although, once you get use to it, VV's titles aren't so terrible to use, either.

If you like SDV, you'll probably appreciate enhancements that come with Studio 7. A very easy method for creating scrolling titles . . . works really well. I have found Pinnacle's capture to be more user friendly and more reliable (for some reason, I cannot rely on Vidcap to grab the entire audio track . . . it just stops in the middle of a capture, boom, no more audio . . . have not been able to figure that out), so I do my capturing in Studio 7 (or SDV), open VV, bring the captured avi's onto the VV timeline.

I still prefer VV for editing. Love the unlimited tracks, the superior handling of audio (far out-distances any of the Pinnacle products with which I'm familiar).

By the way, RAM, if you get good results on your system by printing from Vidcap, you might consider creating a Win2000 partition (dual boot, so you don't lose your WinME), and convert your capture (or at least your editing drive) to NTSF, which would eliminate the need for multi-avi's. Just bring them all onto the VV timeline, edit, and render to the NTSF drive. I have read somewhere that the new Windows (XP???) also allows for NTSF.

Good luck.

As Far As I Know ; )
I said that because I gave up on VidCap for printing to tape, so I didn't know for sure. Hence, AFAIK.
Once I get this big 2 hour project out to tape in the next few days, I'll do the download of the new updated VidCap 2.5 that comes with the Video Factory 2 demo update. But I'm sure it won't let you load non-segmented/unrealated AVI DV files like Studio DV does. I don't think I'll stop using Studio anytime soon tho, it works so good for output. I don't think I'll do the Studio 7 upgrade either. Vegas does everything I need, except render titles fast and print-to-tape multi unrelated AVIs.
Yeah, the new Text Media Generator that comes with the VF2 demo is very cool. I find it very easy to use.
It doesn't render as fast as Title Decko, but has a lot more useable features. So, for mega titling projects, I'll use Title Decko for the speed. Everything else I'll use the "NEW" CG.
Does everyone realize all the new tools us Vegas users get just by downloading the Video Factory 2 demo?
New CG, Pinch-Punch, Film Effect, and more. Do the download and you'll get a taste of VV 3.

I just installed the vidcap that comes with the VF demo. Used it to capture a tape (analog regular (non-HI) 8mm which was digitized via my Sony TRV103. Refreshingly, the capture went smoothly, audio was captured intact (a problem that plagued my system with VV's capture tools).

Imported the resultant avi into VegasVideo, and am in the process of editing now. Looks good so far.

It was my impression that I should achieve scene detection (I checked that option in the preferences area), but only got one big scene (I don't care much about scene detection . . . editing with Vegas is so easy, I never use SD even when capturing through StudioDV or Studio7).

I have not stumbled onto the text generator yet. How do I access it, and what features struck you as most useful?

The new text media generator can only be accessed thru the "plug ins" window. You'll need to activate it via the View menu. It will be called "Sonic Foundry Text" just like the original. Drag each up to a track and you'll know when you have the new one.
Everything works except the "Sync Cursor" feature for keyframing.
Scene Dectection will only work with Digital sources.
Check out the new filters also via plug ins - video.
