I need to hide two to three items at a time in various parts of a video. Not having access to the masking tool found in Vegas Pro, I decided to research movie studio and discovered the cookie cutter tool can be used to blur or pixelize an area. But I have run into several problems .I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if perhaps there is a serious problem with the software not functioning properly?
Small problem #1:
I have found that I need to isolate each specific region of a video that I intend to apply the effect to, by splitting it, For instance, if I need to block three people's faces between 1:00 and 2:00, I will need to split that region and apply the effect there. If I apply the effect starting at 0:00, even with the cookie cutter settings at (0) for size, the size will increase and the effect will appear BEFORE 1:00. Also, if the video continues after 2:00 the effect will stick around. So, if I isolate the specific region, I can have the effect start and stop exactly where I would like.
Q. Is there a better way to have a cookie cutter effect suddenly BEGIN and END (on and off) at a specific time frame?
BIG PROBLEM #2
As I isolate and split each area of the video that I need to add the effect to, I am copying that specific section to a video track just above the original, so that I can work on the duplicated section and have the effect appear on the main video (without directly manipulating the main video). It looks something like this...
=== = ====
================= Main Video Track ; (just above is duplicated sections from Here)
Working on each duplicated section, I start by Applying the cookie cutter effect as a circle. I then LINK a sony pixelation effect to the Cookie Cutter Effect. I make it so that only the circle is pixelated on the video, so that whatever I move it over is covered up.
Now, if I choose to animate this cookie cutter, by choosing "animate" on the circle option, it works fine. I can track a persons face and animate it perfectly. The PROBLEM is when I try to add ANOTHER cookie cutter effect. The software allows me to link cookie cutter efffects, but they seem to cancel one another out. When I turn one on, the other is not visible. I can never seem to get multiple animated cookie cutter effects to work TOGETHER when linked. Why???
The only way I have been able to successfully mask out multiple items in one scene using the cookie cutter tool is to duplicate the video track multiple times above the original and apply a cookie cutter effect to each duplicated section. That is a pain and an extra step that seems to not be necessary if the cookie cutter effect could be LINKED and ANIMATED together within one segment of the video. The software lets you set up multiple cookie cutter effects. It even lets you animate seperate cookie cutter effects while LINKED. however, they seem to cancel each other out and not appear on the video properly.
I'm using the newest version (13).
Any advice on this type of process? Blocking out multiple faces/items at the same time in a video using the cookie cutter tool and animating it.
Am I doing something wrong?? Is the software broken? Any help would be appreciated.
