multiple VEGAS processes running...

During the day I am Editing & Rendering different projects. Naturally, I go in and out of VEGAS, Photoshop, and many other programs.

I noticed in my Task Manager I have multiple VEGAS processes running. It appears that even after I'm done with VEGAS and I close it... the process continues to run. When I open or start a new project... a new VEGAS process starts and the old one remains.

This morning I noticed there were 5 VEGAS processes running on my system even though VEGAS was not currently open. I've used VEGAS since it's days of Vegas Audio & Vegas Video and I've never noticed that the VEGAS process hangs around and continues to run. Seems like this would needlessly be using resources.

Anyone else notice this?
Is this normal?
Is this something I should be worried about?

I don't think it is normal.

I bet this is related to the problems a lot of us have been having rendering projects using a lot of still images. The problem there, in part, is that Vegas seems to grab memory to render a chunk of video but then doesn't release it when it goes on to render the next piece. If the project is big enough, it uses all available memory and crashes.

In monitoring memory use to manage this problem, I and others have noticed that we have to reboot to get the machine to give up one or more Vegas processes, even after closing a project.

To the best of my knowledge:

a. this is not normal

b. this has not been fixed

c. we have no word from Sony when or whether it will be fixed.

I have gotten into the habit of checking my Task Manager between projects. If I see a VEGAS process running... I 'End Task' on it because I notice that it does show Memory Usage.

I have not experienced any crashes by doing this but I noticed if there are multiple VEGAS processes running I will get very sluggish performance. I have also noticed that sometimes a VEGAS process will not 'End Task' and I'll have to reboot to regain resources.

So, it sounds like this should not be happening but others are also experiencing it... with that I guess I'll patiently await an update.

Thanks for the help and info!
