MultiTrack Recording

I have used Vegas 6.0d primarily as a video editor and am now
moving forward to do multitrack recording with my laptop. I have Presonus FireStudio installed and have configured each track
in FS to have its discrete signal. How can I get Vegas to corresspond to these track assignments (i.e. mic in channel 1 on Firestudio to only go to track 1 of Vegas? Thank you in advance for any help. Bob K.

Each track in vegas has an "arm for recording" button. When you press it, you will get a dialog box that opens and asks you where you'd like to save the recording. Once you decide that, you will see a number on your audio track where the recording button once was. This is where you assign inputs to each track. You should see all of your Presonus inputs if you have configured Vegas to use your Presonus as the default soundcard. If you haven't done that, you can do so in the "preferences" section under "audio device."

Thank you for your help - I finally got things figured out. Do you by chance know if I record a multi track project in Vegas whether in can be opened in another program (such as Audition)? If so, could you tell me how its done. Thanks so much! Bob K.

All in the manual and Help ! To make source media file portable, save the project as an AAF file. This will keep the track events and line them up correctly in time, but not FX settings etc

You can also render each track as a 'full-length WAV (so that they line up correctly) and load the individual WAV files into another app, though god knows why you'd want to ;-) To automate the 'same length tracks' thing above check out www.analogx.com for Trackaliser freeware.
