Music compilation editing track names

Videot wrote on 6/27/2004, 11:34 PM
I had a small DVD almost ready & since I had the space available for more on the disk I decived to add a music compilation. I then used the 'auto-insert track title' command as I dragged 24 tracks into the compilation I added the names correctly.

I was disapointed to find however that in addition to the track names that all tracks now had numbers as well as the .wav suffex. Whereas I will concede that somepeople might wish the tracks numbered I can't imagine anyone wanting the names on the scenes selection memus having the wav suffex especially since by the time anyone would get to see this they wouldn't be wav files anymore.

I had to edit each track name to take off both the numbering & the wav designation. Is there an easier way?

Auto-insert track title adds the track name without extension or number to the video. You can change this by...
1. In the compilation window, select the song.
2. In the workspace, click on the text
3. Edit | Edit Text
4. Type text as desired.
This will show up on video of the DVD.

In the timeline, the chapter point for each song (i.e. track) includes the chapter number and the extension of the file. This cannot be changed and will not show up on the DVD.

I believe that Videot is creating a scene selection menu for his compilation, and that DVDA is using the chapter marker names for that menu's buttons. The markers are, by default, named with the chapter number and the filename (complete with extension), and thus all of this is appearing on his scene selection menu. (Videot, please correct me if I'm mistaken.)

Oddly, when I follow a similar procedure (this precedure being: Insert Music Compilation, add files to the compilation, right-click on the compilation button and Insert Scene Selection Menu), markers are created for all of the entries, but only some of those markers are named. And only the named markers appear on the scene selection menu. There must be a pattern, but I have't figured it out yet.

At any rate, the song/chapter number and extension do not appear during the video portion, but it does on the scene selection menu by default. (Naturally, this can be edited.)

Rob, I think you're right.

In that case, there is no easier way. You must edit by hand after you've created the scene selection menu.

bStro is correct. I was trying to use the names only as buttons for this compilation. Since all I wanted to have was links to indivual songs it seemed to be quicker & easier to have lots of titles only on the one page, just as text. The other problem with this approach is that there are many name text boxes on the screen at once all of which are very difficulty to see because they are so small.

I can't see any way to zoom in the text while editing the titles so I have had to resort to making the work area as large as possibele.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but the number of text boxes on the screen is determined by how many items you put on your scene selection menu. DVDA asks you how many buttons to put there when you create it. If you want fewer items (text boxes) per screen, then lower the number when DVDA asks you. DVDA will create however many pages you'd need to accomodate all songs.

I think the default is 12 items.

You can easily put 24-30 text boxes on one screen & they will display well once they are correctly edited & sized. One of the reasons why it's so hard to see these small text boxes to edit them is because they have the unnecessary title number & suffix also displayed. As you remove each unnecessary letter from the box the text gets larger but your starting from a very small text size that's difficult to see.

I know that I can have as many pages as I like for displaying the selections but I thought that it might be usier for the user to have fewer pages to scroll through.

If the problem is just that the text is too small, you can select all the text boxes at once and change the font size.
