Music for a montage for a fallen Marine

I’m putting together a still and video montage for my friend, and neighbor, whose 19 year old son was killed in Iraq on Wednesday – 2 days before he was suppose to come home. I would really appreciate some suggestions on appropriate musical pieces. This DVD will be for the private use of the Marine’s family.

Depending on the video, or still, my initial thinking is I’ll mostly be needing music which is either respectful or more of a celebration of his life. Any other ideas are appreciated.

Your suggestions will be most helpful. Since he grew up with my daughter this is really hard :-(

If you prefer to respond via email you can reach me at larrymail1 @ comcasttt.net (really only 1 “t”)

Thanks.

Larry

Larry, I'm really sorry to hear about your friend's son. I can't imagine anything more devastating than losing your child, or confronting the horrible irony that he was only two days away from coming home..

I don't know whether you'll find anything here that you can use, but it's a site with lots of wonderful military and patriotic music, recorded by bands representing all the services: Military Music The owner of the rights to the various recordings on the site gave us permission to use the National Anthem free of charge for a patriotic DVD we produced, so I don't think you'll have a problem, under the circumstances, if you request permission to use works from his site.

Best of luck putting this piece together.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. You may want to check out if you haven't already seen it. The video is nicely done and very touching.

[edit] Also, there's a nice piece of music by Glenn DeLaune here which has kind of a solemn feeling to it that might work for parts of the production.

As a VietNamVet I add my heartfelt sympathies to all of you - how hard this must be to compose. Go to acidplanet.com. You can register there and chose selections from a wide variety of moods. Each song will list the artist and the menu includes an e-mail link. I've sought permission from artists there to use their music for such things as an early childhood development promotion, and have had no problems. I just save the granting e-mail, and add a printout to the project hardcopy files.
