The easiest solution would be to use an Audio Envelope on that track and then keyframe the Volume so that it's reduced to zero for those sequences.

And I'm not sure it's actually going to hide the video. It sounds like it's going to lower the audio, Yes?

I want the audio all the time. I just want to ignore the video (that's being chromakeyed in) for certain portions of time.

If I understand your question, you would have to split your events at the desired points and drop the opacities to zero, or else drag your other events up to overlay. Vegas Movie Studio does not have opacity envelopes like Vegas Pro.
