Muted tracks "leak" to assignable FX

Earlier on, I mixed together a video clip soundtrack, consisting of several tracks, some containing speech, some sound effects, and one track with music. The project had some assignable FX in it (namely reverb)

Later on, someone requested me to render separate music, speech and SFX tracks of the project. I thought hey, that's simple, I'll just mute/solo the tracks I don't need, and render the rest.

The result: the Speech track had the reverb of the sound effects in it, because despite being muted, the tracks still sent signal to assignable FX. So did the music track. I ended up having to delete the tracks to be excluded.

What gives? Any options/etc I could change to fix this?

make sure the fx sends on those muted tracks are POST and not PRE volume

It's odd, because even in Post volume, if I mute the track, it still FX sends, but if I slide its volume to zero, the FX send also gets cut off. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

play with the effects busses and make sure only the tracks you want are assigned to them.just experiment muting/unmuting and moving tracks in and out of different busses and your sure to figure it out.
