My AVI file takes about an hour to load(no joke), in Premiere, seconds

VP 15. AVI w/Sony DV codec, any ideas appreciated. Takes so long, my MIDI controller times out and becomes unavailable. It will also load in seconds when I swap for aviplug.dll (non standard, from web, downside of that is it disallows any Windows encoding, especially for me non compressed. my gateway to MagicYUV, Logarith, Cineform etc.) Thanks everyone in advance, and yes, this has been mentioned elsewhere but it is coming a bit more into focus.

Just tested this... loads immediately; plays back completely fluidly, as would be expected on a reasonably modern system (i7 980x from 2012) using older low resolution nearly uncompressed footage.

You just tested what or you just loaded which?? Are you saying a file with similar profile? Not quite getting your gist, thanks in advance for clarifying.
