My Avi won't show on Vegas 7

can someone help me out with my vegas 7. i just got a new computer and had re-install it in this computer i'm using now. except my last computer i remember i had install codec to get the avi to work. i just can't remember where to get it. i know in this computer it will only show the audio on vegas 7. can someone help me?

Try installing ffdshow.

In the ffdshow settings, go to DirectShow control, add vegas70.exe to the list of permitted applications.

Download Gspot and find out the codec of the file.

You load the video file into G-spot. All the fields will populate with information about the file. Then you post a link to the screenshot here.

i know it's been awhile since reply to this. but i'm still have problems. i even tried installing v8 but nothing working in that software. so i installed vegas 7 again, but this time when i click once on the avi in the exployer, it show some kind of stream error? some avi i can drag to the timeline but other avi i can't. can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Just a guess but your files are likely mpeg4
I use main concept codex for these.
You can download a recent codex here, apparently as freeware:

In addition you may need a converter program. I know I do for any MP4 AVI video shot on my Casio Z750. I use:
Convert mp4's

It would certainly help if you gave more detail as others have asked for...


Once the files are converted they work flawlessly with Vegas.
