I have my fan set on the silent mode and during Vegas 10 it would only come on during my renders. Now in Vegas 11 it is constantly coming on and off. I am in preview (full) like I have always been. Any possible solutions or settings in Vegas? Or is this a plug-in causing this, like NewBlue?
Vegas and your plugins are not controlling the fan so there's no setting you can change to alter this. What Vegas and your plugins (and whatever other software is running) are doing is forcing the CPU to work harder thus generating more heat. The computer's BIOS senses the extra heat and turns the fan on more.
Maybe you can watch the process list in Windows task manager and see if there's something unexpected running that's causing a higher CPU load.
This is probably normal. If you are on Windows 7, try running "Resource Monitor" and watch the CPU processes and total usage while running Vegas 11. If it's CPU related, this should be able to tell you what's causing it.
It's also possible that it's your GPU/video card fan or your power supply fan, which would most likely not be controlled by your silent mode setting. (There's also case fans in addition the CPU fan.)
There's probably not much you can do about it because you really do want to keep things as cool as possible. Depending on your hardware, there are a many different utilities to monitor/control fan settings as well as case and CPU temperature.
What fan? Some motherboards control the CPU, GPU & case fans. If you're using your GPU it could be just getting warm and it's removing the exes heat. Could be a faulty wire that when it gets hot it makes contact & the fan goes.
On the positive side (for V11 at least) there is the issue of how well Vegas makes use of the available CPU power during a render. Ideally it should be 100% across all available CPU cores. If it is less than that, your computer will take longer to render. It makes sense that V11 would be able to squeeze more out of your CPU cores then previous versions and thus cause your computer to work a little harder than previous versions. This would make the cooling fan kick in as the harder working CPU would get hotter.
