My frame rate flickers in playback

Hello

1: The frame rate in my preview window keeps flickeringwhen playing a clip. Every couple of seconds it jumps to whatever. eg. 29.970 down to 29.850 or what ever. most times it flickers so fast you can't tell what the frame rate is. I'm losing sync within a minute.

Dma is enabled Mode 5 and mode 2
Raptor test showed between 30 an 60 read and write on all drives
Opacity levels are at 100%, no filters no nothing just a plain DV file.
I get no drop frames on capture.

Any ideas?

2: Is there a setting to show "dropped frames" on output?(like in capture)

Try lowering your video acceleration in the video properties window, (rt. clk. on empty part of Desktop>Properties>Settings, etc.). This cured a flickering problem for me..

Travel,

1) on the framerate, gotta ask what other programs might be running in the background, etc.

2) don't think there is a tool that reports dropped frames when printing to tape. Wish there was, else you discover blips only by watching the printed program. Maybe its up to the recieving device (camera etc.) to report this somehow.

I have a ASUS P4C800 motherboard, which has on board 5.1 sound. So when I go into preferences under "audio device" tab, I change the setting in audio device type to "direct Sound Surround Mapper" so I can get my 5.1 working this is when my frame rate starts to drop in playback. So my next question is I should buy a separate sound card instead of using the onboard sound with the motherboard right?

I'm looking at the Audigy 2 Platinum(on a budget)should be allright shouldn't it?
