My mpeg2's are much bigger - why!?!

Okay, here's the deal.

I had a project which was 82 minutes. I rendered to mpeg2 DVD Video stream only and it was 2.5 gigabytes.

Then when I downloaded vegas video 3.0b, and rendered another project with about 83 minutes, and it came in at a whopping 3.6 gigabytes !!!

I am very upset and I don't understand why. They both have similar crossfades, almost very very similar.

Now with my PCM audio it's like 4.7gb and can't burn to DVD = doesn't fit!

What did SF do from vv 3.0a to 3.0b as far as the main concept encoder? I also noticed that the logo for mainconcept has changed. Sonic Foundry, please tell me what's going on! Thank you

Also I noticed that VV3.0A uses Build 71 for the mpeg2 plugin while 3.0B uses Build 96 for the mpeg2 plug in... is this the culprit? If so, how can i use the old build in v3.0b? Sonic Foundry, please help, I've got to get my recording on DVD and it won't fit!!!!!

As mentioned in the readme file, the average bitrate in the DVD templates was bumped up to 6,000,000 and that would account for the larger file size. You can back the average bitrate down to 4,200,000 and you should wind up with a smaller file size.

There was a bug in the encoder we shipped with 3.0b that caused software playback to lose sync (authored to DVD, the files were fine). We'll be posting a fix soon.

If you want to revert to the MPEG encoder in 3.0a, go to ftp://porker.sonicfoundry.com/

folder: Vegas 3.0b MPEG beta fix

drop all of the components in the "Vegas 3.0b MPEG beta fix" folder into ":\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\File Formats\MCMPEG" on your machine, choose yes to overwrite all, then restart Vegas and try another render.

Thanks SF for your quick response...

Are there any differences besides the bitrate bump... also, will I see a big difference in video quality?

Where is the readme file located please

Thanks,

AB

Higher bitrates usually (not always) result in higher quality.

readme files can be found in the install folder, or Start>Programs>Sonic Foundry> Vegas
