Hi Guys!
I'm so happy, becouse i have found my perfect sidechain solution in VEGAS 4.0. I know it was a topic before, but there is a little problem now.
If anybody cares : i use sidechain compress to get space (reduce the BASS freq. energy) in the mix against the kik drum (for eg.) I send all the channels to one bus which i want to "pump out".
Then i insert a C1s/c (! my favourite plug-in !) to that bus.
To get the "pump", i draw an automation for the C1s/c's treshold from 0 to -50 dB.
The other settings are >
MakeUp > 0
(Tresh 0 - -50 dB)
Ratio > 1:1 - 8:1 (? depend on how deep "pump" i want )
Attack > 0.01
Release > 50
PDR > 0
Type > BandPass
Freq > 70-90 Hz
Q > 0.245 (?)
LookAhead > Yes
KeyMode > Stereo
Monitor > Audio
It is important to draw out only at the kick drums (by drawing the treshold automation), maybe a little before. The automation fade shapes are perfect to get the job done. For me at the start of the kick the FAST fade is OK, then a little hold (until approx. the half of the kick, but not so important), and then i use SLOW fade to set the C1s/c to "bypass" again.
I draw only one Quarter beat, then i copy and CTR+B this S/C pattern in the BUS track.. So easy. (at this days i'm producing trance kinda music)
This method gives me PERFECT sidechain-feel. It affects only the desired moments and tracks of the music (PADs, FX, some BASSes for eg.), and NO outboard cmp (no D/A - A/D conversion), no s/c guide track are needed. (by the way my AMEK 9098 C/L is for sale now.. :) )
VEGAS 4.0 RULEZ!

Problems :
No.1.
The automation of the C1s/c is PERFECT in real-time playback. (i've recorded back via analog out/in to VEGAS)
BUT THE RENDERED AUTOMATION IS MORE THAN FUNNY!!
That is useless... (ver 3.6)
No.2.
Sometimes i need to adjust only the LOWER points of the automation (to change the treshold points for eg.). This is now impossible in the VEGAS 4.0. Isn't it?
Sorry if this post contains nothing new..
I'm just so happy with this S/C thing - i have to share with all of YOU.
