My Vegas Can't Capture - Pt. 2

I run Vegas 3.0c on a P550 w/128M RAM, 7200rpm Media Drive.
I installed a Belkin Firewire card and tried to capture video. A few minutes into the capture, it stops and gives me an error message saying the system lost communication with the DV device. Then it gives me a message saying "No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection."

I figured that it just didn't like the firewire card, so I returned it and got a SIIG DV-cam Kit, one of the ones that SF says were tested with Vegas. I still had the same results.

Then I decided to try capturing video using the Ulead Video Studio Software that came with the SIIG card.

IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!

I've checked the Video Menu on the Capture Screen and it lists my device as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR." This is what it should say, correct?

we're looking into it- a couple of web searches make it sound like more than one app is trying to access the camera simultaneously. Is some other DV app kicking in while you are using Vegas?

Not that I'm aware of. Up until I installed Ulead Video Studio to try to work around the problem, I had no other DV apps on the system. I try to run it as lean as possible to prevent such headaches.

It was suggested that I reinstall DirectX. I've recently downloaded the latest version of DirectX, but I have yet to install it. Would this be a better solution?

bringing DirectX current will not hurt, might even help.

What device? Canon or JVC, probably not a Sony?

These devices can have problems with both commands and data xfer over the 1394 bus.

What happens if you disable DV device control?

The camcorder in question is a Sony VX1000. Whether or not DV device control is disabled doesn't make any difference. I get the same result. I even tried disabling the preview screen.
