My Vegas trial has expired??

bgccdx wrote on 4/27/2004, 4:06 AM
When I try to load Vegas 5.0a on my second machine (notebook) it asks me to register before using Vegas. I have now done that about 6 times. Each time it thanks me nicely for registering, then promptly tells me that my trial has expired and asks me if I would like to buy it. Problem is, I've already bought it but I can't get near it to put my serial number in. (Sounds like a few girlfriends I had many years ago!) Can anybody help?

I think this is some sort of bug. I have had something like this happen and so have others.

Sorry you've had hassles, but buy it anyway - you won't be sorry.

What if you uninstall the demo and then install the 5.0a update. You should be able to enter your serial number then.

>>> What if you uninstall the demo and then install the 5.0a update. <<<

You know as a 'last resoirt' I tried that for the heck of it and I entered the demo SN and than it went through the registration process and than said the usual "Thank you..." and than said "Your trial has expired". So for me the results were exactly the same. From what I am getting in the other thread each time Vegas Phones home whatever is at the other end of the 'phone home' call is thinking that there have been multiple installs so bgccdx says he tried already 6 times that means trying again would read as yet another install to the database (?) and my guess is that would mean that same end result - thank you, but your trial has expired.

But I could be wrong as to what happens when it phones home. Just what I think is going on based on the responses from both Sony and vitamin_D's talking to Sony in the other thread I mentioned. If all simple logic fails maybe call Sony support and get a new SN?

I meant the PURCHASED serial number.

>>>I meant the PURCHASED serial number.<<<

I know that however if the concept of activation and Vegas phoneing home is to prevent multiple installs and bgccdx has already tried to register 5 times, with a "PURCHASED serial number" or not, than Sony has a record of the sn being used 5 times no? So My point was that, as I read it, the same issue would arise - demo sn or not. :)

And beyond that as I take it each install adds some info to your registry and deleting it does not mean anything because when Vegas Phones home it also adds the same info back to the registry.

Either way I suggest he call support and see. And maybe he can post the results here. :)

Thanks everyone. I guess phoning tech support is the answer. I'll let everyone know the results.

I phoned tech support and was mightily impressed. As I am from Australia I didn't really want to be kept on hold for ages and I wasn't. My call was answered immediately by Brian who took me through the manual registration process and gave me a new activatiopn code. It seems that if you have this problem, calling Tech Supoort is the only way to fix it.

Thanks Sony for great tech support service.
