mysterious "missing file" message

for some time since vegas7.0 and also now by vegaspro8.0, a few people I know who, mostly use WindowsXP chinese localized version, meet very often such a message: after the project saved successfully it comes by reopen saying one or several files are missing. No matter whether you do a reserch or let it/them offline you get vegas crashed. More worse comes also such as "vegas has got problems, the error could not be determined" and vegas vanished. Less worse is, you can get the project loaded but huge blank events on the time line where a relink prepares painful work for you.
I just wonder whether somebody has experienced similar situations, till now I havn't seen even one report in this forum.
thx for any reply or suggestion.

This is merely a guess.
But if you're using the chinese language or symbols, when saving files, something is wrong with the language version your computer or WindowsXP or Vegas is using.
I'm guessing that some letter character is being saved differently then you are expecting it to.
Files have to match exactly or they won't be found.
I would check the files you've had problems with and see if there is any common connection. Certain letters or characters or series of letters or characters that may be common to the files you've had problems with. (any slight difference between what you type in the 'Save As' and when you find the file. Any difference to any character or even an extra space or mark)
Like I said, that's just a guess. But I've never heard anybody complain of this problem with version 7, so it may be linked to the "Chinese Localized" version.

When you open a Vegas project, if the file is reported as "missing" and you do not want to "replace" the file then choose "ignore missing file and leave offline". Once the project is open, find the file in the project media. It should still be there, but greyed out, highlight this file, right click and choose "remove from project". This will not delete the file from your hardrive, but it will remove it from the project. Resave the project. The next time you open the project that file should no longer be "missing" ..

You may have removed or moved or renamed files on your hardrive without removing them from a Vegas project. This will cause Vegas to tell you they are "missing" when you open the project. This should not crash Vegas so something else may be happening as well. Hope this helps.
